School Programs

The mission of GNAC’s ArtReach programs in the schools is to put the arts IN education. We use all the arts forms - theater, dance, music and the visual arts - to inspire students and teachers of all ages and abilities. Our programs are designed to build community through collaboration in the classroom, help students explore connections to all core subject areas as well as to their personal and cultural histories, and help teachers become more comfortable with incorporating the arts into their classrooms. Many of our school programs incorporate the students' family members, senior citizens from community and other adults from outside the school environment to enhance the learning experiences.

Examples of GNAC's ArtReach School program offerings include:

GNAC is proud to be an affiliate of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts: Partners in Education program. This program is designed to assist arts organizations in developing and extending partnerships in local school systems in order to promote the professional development of classroom teachers. We do this by holding workshops for classroom teachers on how to incorporate the arts into the teaching of core curriculum subjects. GNAC's partners in this Kennedy Center affiliation are the Plainview/Old Bethpage School District and Hofstra University.

GNAC is also an affiliate of the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. This affiliation makes GNAC a major resource on Long Island for the Gallery’s extensive information on the great art masters. The National Gallery’s Educational Loan Programs are designed to foster awareness of the visual arts and help make the Gallery’s collections accessible to students. The Loan Programs meet national standards in the visual arts for K-12, and are designed to help students explore and discuss the work of various artists, genres of art, techniques and styles. GNAC serves as an “affiliate distributor” of National Gallery of Art educational resources, providing materials on loan and by request to schools that participate in the Arts Center outreach programs and school tours.

Both of these prestigious national affiliations provide our teaching artists and partner schools with access to tremendous resources that help enhance their programs and workshops.
